A native of Los Angeles, California, Brent began his visual arts training with a decade of traditional academic drawing and painting studies in several private ateliers on the East Coast.
During the time, he began to exhibit and subsequently won awards for his work. Eventually, Brent redirected his energies to the full time pursuit of photojournalism after coming to the conclusion that photography was the medium that was best suited to achieving his artistic mission statement.
Currently based in the Boston area, where he is both studying and working independently, Brent divides his time between shooting feature stories, current news events, and long term documentary essays. Having been influenced by Robert Frank’s landmark 1975 book “The Americans”, Brent is also developing themes and shooting images for photo essays that are of a very personal and subjective nature, in contrast to his efforts of straight, unbiased photo reportage.
In addition to his photojournalism activities, Brent enjoys work as an event photographer, documenting various galas, cocktail parties, receptions, ceremonies, concerts and similar events that take place within the greater Boston area.
His photos are at Salem’s Front Street Coffee throughout the month of February.
