A program of solo piano music written by or inspired by Bach, featuring J.S. Bach’s English Suite in G minor, Mendelssohn’s Variations Sérieuses, and Liszt’s Variations on a ground bass from Bach’s Cantata, Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Sagen. Free.

After School Sugaring Crew

Working alongside staff, teens (ages 13-17) will learn how to produce maple syrup from tap to bottle, and everything in between. Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 26, 28; March 5, 7. FREE, pre-registration required

The Artists & Authors Winter Exhibition

The Hawthorne Hotel and the Salem Arts Association are pleased to announce the third annual Artists & Authors Winter Exhibition at the Hawthorne Hotel. Once again, the Ballroom of the Hawthorne Hotel will be brimming with local artists and authors displaying and selling their work. A special guest demonstration will begin at 5 p.m. The Artists & Authors Winter Exhibition will be free and open to the public.

Distant Music

Distant Music, by James McLindon, tells the story of Dev, an Irish barkeeper, and two patrons on a snowy Day of Epiphany. Like most Irish barkeeps, Dev is an avid eavesdropper with a gift of gab. As he listens, Dev gives inspiration and guidance to his two patrons and gains some insight on his own life as well.

Pirates and Privateers Party

Ahoy and avast, mateys! Pirates and privateers are summoned to the Salem Athenaeum for a rollicking good time. Enlivened by music from the popular duo Rum and Revolution and sea shanties from roving members of Glover’s Regiment, revelers will enjoy gourmet hors d’ouevres and complimentary beer and wine. A signature rum drink will be available for purchase for a few doubloons. Costumes are encouraged.
