SAYmedia Center Grand Opening

Come and join the Salem YMCA as it celebrates the opening of a new media center for teens, which will provide exciting opportunities for youth in the community. Meet donors, partners, local officials, and friends who have helped make this initiative possible. View videos made by local teens and hear directly from them on the impact the project is already making in their lives. Light refreshments will be served.

Stone, Sea, Sky

The Firehouse Gallery invites you to experience “Stone, Sea, Sky,” a collection of collagraph prints by Kathleen Buchanan.  With her depiction of scenes of coastal Maine, Buchanan brings a charming and primitive quality to her work. Located in the lobby of the historic Market Square Theater, the show will be on display through January 2.

Doug Brendel Story Reading

Pay a visit to Time & Tide Fine Art for a reading by Ipswich humorist Doug Brendel of his beloved Christmas story “Dirty” and his story-poem “The Day After Christmas.” The event will serve as a fundraiser for the humanitarian charity “New Thing” that Doug and his wife Kristina direct in the former Soviet Union. Between the two readings, Doug plans to briefly introduce New Thing and answer questions.

Reckless

Reckless begins innocently enough with visions of puppies and children all snug in their beds on a snowy Christmas Eve. Suddenly Rachel (a housewife and heroine of our story) is forced out into the snow where she embarks on a crazy ten-year journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas. Reckless is a richly inventive and often startling comedy filled with bizarre characters and events. The show will run through December 22.

Wrap It Up

Drop-in for the Peabody Essex Museum’s yearly holiday wrapping paper workshop.  This year Regina from the Boston Paper Collective will teach participants Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese art of paper marbling.  Make your own Suminagashi paper and see some examples of Ebru (Turkish paper marbling).

A Christmas Carol
